A spokesperson with CBP declined to common on any specific cases, but said the agency “ensures all individuals in custody are treated with respect and in accordance with the law.”
"A top priority for CBP is to minimize the duration of any detention, with detention times being influenced by operational requirements, case complexity, and other factors. However, individuals’ choices and legal violations contribute significantly to the necessity of detention.
Oh FUCK right off you insufferable cunts. They took a wrong turn. Make them do a U and go home.
This is more heavy-handed than high-security military bases. Usually, there’s a dedicated spot to do a U-turn BEFORE the gate and, unless the marine is in a shitty mood, they’re often willing to point you in the correct direction.
ETA: Probably, they’re trying to pump up deportation numbers because Trump was angry that they were so low.
Spot on.
Who remembers when the Bush Republicans were all Hearts and Minds when bombing the fuck out of Iraq?
I suppose it’s an improvement that they no longer try to hide what pieces of shit they are.
I know people are overwhelmed and or ignorant, but it seems like the locality that runs this bridge could do more to help lost people not make this mistake. Like maybe a pre checkpoint that stops people and ask them are you trying to go to Canada and do you have the proper documentation? If not just let them U turn.
The US- Canada border in Detroit is a mess. One example is if you’re traveling southbound on I-75 the exit to Canada is shared with Vernor hwy, a major street in Detroit. Taking this exit, you can actually see the bridge to Canada on your left. However the exit splits at that point and you have to take the right lane to go to Canada. There is only one sign telling you this so if you miss it and are in the wrong lane you’re going to Canada. No other option at that point
Oh FUCK right off you insufferable cunts. They took a wrong turn. Make them do a U and go home.
Seriously. “What? This is a border? I did not intend to cross the border, please let me turn around” should be the entirety of this situation
one person attempted suicide while in custody that officials prevented.
Ffs
That’s what happens when people read about others being sent to El Savadorian prisons and think it may happen to them.
Unfortunate, because homicide is the more correct reaction.
It’s a super easy mistake to make (have done it trying to get to the Japanese consulate to get my visa before moving to Japan).
Not American. What border is this? Are they accidentally attempting to leave the US for Canada due to a wrong turn and are snatched up? Can’t they turn around before they reach the border?
The bridge there has been a constant source of pain for both sides. Basically you get given a sign on Ontario-3 once you pass the last intersection of College Ave and Huron Church Rd telling you that if you don’t want to go to the US you need to cut across 4 lanes to a small exit if you happen to be towards the left.
Check out the Ambassador Bridge on Google maps and use the street view to play along. Not the same as being an actual driver with traffic, but you’ll get the idea.
Pass that sign and you didn’t intend to, straight to jail.
So these are people living in Canada that are imprisoned at the border to the US, even tough they have no intention of entering?
Like, wtf?!
