For a long time, I thought it was Fedora Core 4. I did use that, but I recently found my old burned CDs of Mandrake 8.1. That really took me back. I might install it on a VM for some nostalgia.

All of those are true. But I still love it. Why? I like airships. And I like that I take my whole home with me as I explore, and don’t have to travel back to a fixed point to store my treasures. Is it derivative? Yes. Is it repetitive? Yes. Does it tick all the boxes for me to relax for a couple hours at night? Absolutely.
Yeah, you’re right it is pretty linear. Astroneer is fantastic regarding freedom, I totally agree. And I love that it doesn’t have the food and water requirements, just air. That really lets you focus more on the exploration. Haven’t played the other two you mentioned. I’d definitely say Forever Skies is a casual game. If I weren’t playing that at night, I’d probably be playing Boggle Plus or Dr. Mario on the GameBoy. If I had the time (not at 11pm) to really get into a game where I cared about story or interesting mechanics, I would be playing something better. I could finally finish F.E.A.R., after 20 years. Or start MechWarrior 5.
I’ll be honest and admit that I’ve done that once or twice. It was a Friday, and I went to lunch with a coworker at a pub nearby. He got a lunch beer, so I decided to get a lunch beer. Saw they had Dragonmead Final Absolution on tap, which is one of my favorite beers of all time. Usually, you get it in like, 10oz glasses, its 10% ABV. But the waitress asked if I wanted a short or a tall! I don’t think she was familiar with it. I couldn’t pass up an opportunity like that, so I got a tall. Nursed it throughout lunch. After we paid the bill, I pounded the rest of the 20oz glass. Got back to work, and started feeling it as soon as I put the car in park. It was all I could do not to take a George Costanza style desk nap. Nothing productive was done the rest of the afternoon.
I had a coworker at a different job come to a 1pm meeting and sit next to me, completely reeking of booze. He tried to contribute something, and when he got up to point at something he just stumbled and fell right into the projector screen then onto the floor. My boss asked me later if I noticed anything off about him in there, and I just said it looked like he lost his balance pretty bad, hope he’s OK. Pretty sure he was going through some personal issues at the time, because I never saw him do anything like that again.
I love it. I only have 32 hours into it so far, but I keep coming back to it more and more. Really, just because it’s so chill. The survival aspect of it is so easy. Catch some fat dust moths, cook, and freeze. Tanks of water ready to be purified at any time. So really, it’s just a chill game where you float around and collect stuff to build a better ship. I play it for acouple hours late at night after my wife and kid are asleep to unwind. It’s not a game that takes a lot of skill or concentration, it’s just relaxing. And when I’m in my glass walled bedroom, ship swaying back and forth in a storm, I’d say it’s downright cozy. Float around, find blueprints for a new chair or lamp, call it a night.
$602.41 for 50 games in 18.4 years. Cost at today’s prices: $698. I’d say that’s a win.
2,095 hours. 72% of games played. Guess I need to get to work.
I wish I could track my pre-steam numbers. Id be interested to see how much time I put into Mechwarrior 3, or Rollercoaster Tycoon, or Unreal Tournament.
I’m silent at work, and vibration the rest of the time. I’m totally in agreement with you.
Most of it is in my bathroom when my father-in-law visits.
Just wash it down with some orange Fanta.
A buddy of mine. Just refuses to. Never elaborated, I didn’t ask. Probably part of why his marriage didn’t last.
By that logic, my deep love for the act should ensure mine will last forever.
How’s everybody doing? Sorry about the wait, it’s hard to move in these costumes. Here’s a complimentary appetizer for the inconvenience. Our new Owl Pellets!
Who remembers the Hooters episode of Undercover Boss? Where that manager made all the waitresses eat beans off of plates with their faces to see who goes home. And he doesn’t even get fired. The whole episode was uncomfortable.
I don’t think they’d ever be able to rebrand away what everybody thinks about them.
Tried it November of 2024, ended up switching to Mint with Cinnamon, zero issues since.

Thanks, I think it’s one of my best looking pens. The VP isn’t a VP, it’s a MoonMan A1. I’m not sure if it’s made by Majohn or not, but it is super similar to their A1 and A2 if it’s not. Writes well, good seal. For under $30. Highly recommend.
That exact issue is why I stopped using KDE. I never did figure it out.
That looks awesome. It would look a little out of place next to my other pinball machines, as they’re vintage. But I’d still love it. I don’t want to have to sell two watches to afford it, though. That’s pretty expensive.
How could I forget K&E. Nice slide rules, too.
I love 0.3. I would love a Rotring one if they made it. My only one is an Alvin Draftmatic.
