If the site allows me to filter the results to only include items that have no import fees (i.e. are made domestically from domestic raw material), then I support allowing us to see it. The thing is, a large part of what got this government selected was their ongoing discussion around industrial deregulation. The basic position on that in the Republican party is that this isn’t a problem for the government to address. To them, it’s a problem for consumers and businesses to handle in the marketplace. If consumers want to do business with companies who make climate pledges and carbon pledges, then things will go that way. If, instead, the majority of people vote with their wallets and their choices that they don’t care, then this admin and the party behind them say that’s the way it should be.

That’s part of why I said that the USA has made it perfectly clear as a country that we don’t give a damn. We’ve regularly protested public nuclear power (to the point that one of the most effective nuclear plants was shut down after a small incident, and is now being bought for private use by Microsoft), along with the construction of new hydroelectric dams, solar farms, and wind turbines. We’ve even had some protests against urban cogen (energy recapture, etc). Those protests cut across the political spectrum, too. Entire states have voted for government officials on the basis of “bringing back” coal power (and thus coal mining, processing, etc.).

Most of the discussions between government delegates and officials at summits like these are around regulation and government policy restricting corporate pollution and changing energy sources away from coal and the like. If, as the host, you are already certain based on previous discussions and public statements that the answer from one nation will essentially boil down to the idea that governments should not legislate or regulate industry, and their delegates and officials will actively discourage others from doing so - to the point of putting the two nations on a more antagonistic footing than they already are over mere discussion, why invite them? It’s just going to be an upsetting waste of everyone’s time.

Okay, and? We’re out of Kyoto. We’re out of Paris. We’ve made it perfectly clear as a country that we simply don’t give a damn about making the changes that the rest of the world want us to, or the changes they’re offering to make themselves. Why should the US be forced to be involved in a discussion that will go nowhere?

That’s how markets should work, yes. When supply exceeds demand, prices should drop. We’ve had issues of this not happening because companies just hold the market hostage, but I’m hoping that the current situation causes all sellers and producers to be more market-reactive.

I’m hoping he walks with a not-guilty.

Honestly, I think the biggest question with FreeDOS nowadays is whether you want to use FreeDOS or DOSBox-X. That’s been my situation for a while now, and I go back and forth.

Oh geez, I never realized how deep into the rabbit hole I go. But for me FreeDOS & ReactOS are just because… I was there when they were first relevant. I started with FreeDOS because of the DR-DOS scandal. I’ve never really gotten I2P to work. TempleOS is still ambitious. And I actually jumped on here because I got annoyed that I can’t use Lynx, only Links (I’m on Linux Mint).

Absolutely not. If we’re going to be on the aggressive path, we need to stay the course. There are demands in place. Either they’re met, or it keeps going - up to and including a complete embargo on Chinese goods, while we continue to discuss the situations with HK and Taiwan ROC separately.

Of all the moves he could make now, this would be the worst. If you want to apply brutish tactics and force, you must be prepared to maintain that force until either you accomplish the stated goals or you’ve been so completely drained that you have to fold.

The USA is in neither position. This isn’t a gesture of magnanimity. This is just proof that he’s already made money off it somehow.

Not flooding the world with more LLM-related slop really doesn’t sound like that bad a thing. A nation already known for widespread IP theft is better-equipped to double down on that. For me it’s simple: I lost my planned career. I was going to be a librarian. The money to give me a scholarship dried up. So I pulled myself together, bopped through decent jobs for a decade or so, and now have a career.

So, as I expected, the judgment is entirely useless. Without strong enforcement, these judgments are utterly valueless. The court exists as a watchdog against corruption and abuse - but at this point, it’s contributing. As much as I get the idea behind this, she bought that dress pre-tariff. We cannot, and should not, expect that people only wear their clothing once. Yes, obviously she should be seeking out clothing made in the USA, by US designers and with US materials. But that sourcing does take time. And in the meantime, in our crud-flooded world, we all need clothes.
