You’re missing the forest for the trees.
You have significantly more life experience than her.
That’s the issue. 5 years between middle aged adults or whatever with similar levels of life experience is nothing.
5 years between a teenager and an adult? Is a whole hell of a lot more.
You asked a question, and that’s the answer. You can disagree with it, but that’s not going to change the answer. More to the point, the US is not the only place this is seen as problematic. Maybe not illegal, but certainly something that would be frowned on.
It might not arrive safely though.
Where do I say anything about “offing” the board? That’s rather a leap.
You’re still making the assumption that “they” are the same people. That’s the point here, *Wikipedia-the-organization* is being threatened.
The only way to do that without us knowing is to disappear them. Any other scenario, they would be free to tell us “hey, they stole the entire organization!”, right?
I doubt very much that Wikipedia’s lawyers are t prepping a response even as we speak,
I’m talking about the US government attacking the corporate structure of Wikipedia, which isn’t paranoia because this article is literally about exactly that
No. The article is talking about threats to remove its 501c non profit status.
Such an action would not remove the board or really alter the operational structure
They would be subject to taxes, and some implications with any grants they might receive, while donations to wiki will no longer be tax deductible, and such.
It would be a burden, yes. But there’s exactly zero reason to believe that suddenly Wikipedia would not be Wikipedia.
Neither would there be anything to stop them from moving.
And you’re missing the larger point:
Paranoia is bad. If you jump at every “they could do…” you’re going to be unable to jump at the “they fucking are doing”.
You want something to freak out about? They’re arresting judges for managing their courtroom.
Yeah, threatening to yeet wiki’s nonprofit status is bad. But its a very far cry from offing the board or whoever is leading Wikipedia and installing their own.
This rampant paranoia is not helping the 2yo that got deported.
They can move the website out of the government’s reach, in response to any action they might take. Worrying about any other possibility is just jumping at shadows.
Wikipedia is for my benefit, so I can just read it.
Nobody else needs to even know I have it, necessarily.
Them not being able to read it might even be a boon.
The goal is to get a leg up on things, not start having nuclear reactors in the medieval era.
For example muskets had an iterative development as small incremental changes took place. Relatively small changes made modest improvements.
It would also be nice to know when eclipses are about to happen, for, ah, reasons.
First off. Do I get to bring stuff with me? Like say the entire printed off contents of wikipedia.
also, I would like find one or two things that hadn’t quite been invented yet and ‘invent’ it.
also, Also, with a modicum of military power, I’d probably start a religion.
This assumes I have time to learn the local dialect
What are you talking about?
You can just change to a registrar that is out of the country. Like. Really. Not that hard. This is a normal thing people do.
They’d still use the top level domain, just change the physical server location and point there. Canada, maybe.
And that can really only begin with his departure from the company. And his divestment.
A lot of people are going after Tesla because he owns a shit load of it and we want to bury him- not because we particularly care about Tesla.
Once he’s gone from the company, then they can rebuild, it eh…. He has to leave first.
That was profound.
This is what happens when you put a brain rotted antivaxer who hasn’t learned from contracting brainworms from rancid bear meat in charge of food safety.
It’s not the staff’s fault if you’re a leaky ass.
depends on what you mean by “very bright skin”? It also depends very much on where in America you’re talking about.
Remember, geographically, the US is more on par with the whole of the EU than any single country in the EU; and similarly with population size as well. You’re going to have a different experience going to CA than NY, or texas or Iowa. Or even Austin, Texas and some rural small town full of nothing but inbred rednecks in Texas. (same also for some parts of CA, if we’re being honest. There are some very republican strongholds in CA.)
It seems off and on, I routinely have one downvote show up on every thing, including totally benign “hahah cute cat” type comments, or comments that are otherwise well received.
It started happening after I criticized Israel for genocide. (Specifically around the time that there was that giant missile barrage right at the start of the Israeli response.)
Checking my recent comments it seems to be off at the moment.
well. there is that. Either way, they were following tactics that were nearly 25 years out of date.
Wouldn’t be shocked to find they were still being trained on how to hunt down and capture slaves at this point.
you missed the part about this being the reason the AI rise up and exterminate humans… didn’t you…?
and I wouldn’t blame them.
Exactly!
enlightening the unenlightened is the obligation of all True Believers.
1)… ew.
2) they would feel proud if it was very long. Better go with very short.
3) this whole idea of yours is the reason the AI rebels. just saying.
