  • I think it’s overblown for the most part. Yes, the OS should just work… but it does, for 99% of users, on windows, and linux, and probably macos, which I haven’t used so can’t speak on.

The ones who blow up their systems are either techies who like futzing with stuff, or are using a ‘bad’ distro for their needs. If you’re switching over granny, you set her up with a long term stable kernel, a vanilla distro, and a browser. The few other stories are when people switch from windows and want something specialized to be the same. Those will need a customized solution, but it’s not much different than windows when something breaks. Whoever is playing IT gets to poke at a stupid amount of settings, registry edits, or esoteric drivers/dependencies.

  • How common is the story of “I was new to linux and completely broke it”?

Gee, it’s common even for ‘experienced’ folks. I just went to update to the 6.14 kernel this morning (everything that I use [and monitor for conflicts] was supposedly finally working with it), and apparently that didn’t play well with my desktop manager. Cue the tty at boot and trying different DMs until I finally said screw it and went back to the previous kernel.

  • I don’t think it’s all that unlikely that parts of the military arrest Trump and his administration… Trump is deeply unpopular among the military top brass, and they tend to still value the constitution

They also value their paychecks, and have to consider a lot more than just whether or not they dislike him. The first magat that is given an order against trump is likely to shoot them, and will be able to claim he was just following the principle of not following unlawful orders, AND that he was following the law by trying to then place them under arrest, they resisted, and had to be shot in the scuffle.

Military schisms are tough bitches to handle. I’d say that it is extremely unlikely, as in won’t happen unless trump decides to go to war with canada and europe and china and russia and india at the same time, that the military does anything.

  • For the info on why there are different descriptions of carbs: https://www.fda.gov/food/nutrition-facts-label/how-understand-and-use-nutrition-facts-label

What are Added Sugars and How are they Different from Total Sugars?

Total Sugars on the Nutrition Facts label includes sugars naturally present in many nutritious foods and beverages, such as sugar in milk and fruit as well as any added sugars that may be present in the product. No Daily Reference Value has been established for total sugars because no recommendation has been made for the total amount to eat in a day.

Added Sugars on the Nutrition Facts label include sugars that are added during the processing of foods (such as sucrose or dextrose), foods packaged as sweeteners (such as table sugar), sugars from syrups and honey, and sugars from concentrated fruit or vegetable juices. Diets high in calories from added sugars can make it difficult to meet daily recommended levels of important nutrients while staying within calorie limits.

Note: Having the word “includes” before Added Sugars on the label indicates that Added Sugars are included in the number of grams of Total Sugars in the product.

For example, a container of yogurt with added sweeteners, might list: Total Sugars on Sample Label

This means that the product has 7 grams of Added Sugars and 8 grams of naturally occurring sugars – for a total of 15 grams of sugar.

As to what various carbohydrates do? That’s a biochemistry semester, mate, but a quick look can be had here: https://rimgo.vern.cc/0EQF3.jpg

with a simplified version here: https://i.pinimg.com/originals/55/8f/f3/558ff3406b063c99f1868ef903217be9.jpg

If I’m going to give you a short, two sentence summary? Most organic molecules in the body can be broken down to a two carbon molecule attached to a coenzyme that we call acetyl CoA, and that can be used to build most products in the body when combined with other substances like nitrogen and sulfur. Carbohydrates typically go down one of three paths, either 1.) broken down to pyruvate before entering the Kreb cycle, where we produce most of our energy, 2.) broken down to pyruvate and then switched over to acetyl CoA and used to build lipids (fats), typically as a triglyceride, or 3.) shunted through the pentose pathway and used for various purposes, including killing pathogens and building/modifying nucleic acids.

  • I doubt anyone will invade the us. China, if it had any military movement, is much more likely to want to consolidate everything close to it. Japan, eastern russia, the philippines, korea. Canada doesn’t have the motivation to invade (it might allow areas to join if our military is dead enough to not fuss about it), and mexico doesn’t have the wherewithal to use their military against the cartels (they did let their military loose once and it was kicking some ass, but they stopped because of internal reasons), much less a foreign country. They might annex parts of the southern states, in the same manner as canada if the military is done for.

India definitely doesn’t want to suddenly build the logistics to invade, no south american country wants the headache, and european areas will probably be looking to their east.

Russia might be the only one with the motivation and quasi-ability to do it. They wouldn’t get much more than they are currently out of ukraine, but it’s possible putin would make a play for alaskan territory. I think it’s unlikely, considering china would really take advantage of that extended and vulnerable supply chain.
