
No super specialized knowledge here, but I have gone through my share of photography equipment reviews.
Things to look out for:
- Lens distortion. The most common are barrel and pincushion, but there are some others
- A flat focal plane
Neither of those is necessary a show stopper, but you need to be aware of how much your gear exhibits this behavior and work around it according (eg correcting for lens distortion before processing, not relying on the whole width/height of the sensor if necessary, etc).
There are tons of software options to correct for distortion, just be sure to process the files before you use them if your lens has significant distortion. Also note that zooms exhibit different amounts and types of distortion at different focal lengths.
