My friends and I can always find 50 other apps for voice chatting, texting and screen sharing. What pisses me off royally is the thousands of companies/groups that decided instead of making forums or websites or GitHub pages, they would just host EVERYTHING from within Discord’s walled garden.
That’s been a problem all along and one reason why I’ve never advised chrome alternatives unless someone is demanding to use Chrome over anything else. Firefox and probably 50 different forks of it would be superior in every way, and then maybe… Opera? I don’t even know anymore. Firefox is the only one holding things together.
That actually sounds like a good thing. Google has only been going down this exact path anyways with Chrome, at least if this happened it would make headlines and more people would wake up and leave that nightmare browser.

I’m that person. I get into fights on there a lot and call people troglodytes all the time. One time though some rednecks came into my work and told me they had seen all my comments, they said they thought they were funny but in a vague manor that left it 50/50 on if they really thought they were funny or if they were giving me a veiled threat not to leave more. I never did learn my lesson about engaging with cretins, most of which are probably bots these days, but I have reduced my Facebook usage to essentially nothing more than sharing articles I find important.

Sounds revisionist to make moot worse than he really is. He was a kid. Most of what you know about 4chan has nothing to do with the founder (see: not owner for some time now), so your hate is misdirected.
When I first used 4chan, more specifically /b/ in like 2009 and it was wild. There were definitely a lot of horrible people, but it was far from the majority of the posts there; there was actual interesting content and interesting discussions at times.
Every time I’ve been to /b/ over the last 5-10 years has been nothing short of horrific.
The content of /b/ over the last however long would variably look like this:
Extremely racist thread
Thread of actual gore showing severally mutilated human beings or less frequently animals
Trans hate thread
Intimate pictures of people you know viewed as porn thread
Another racist thread
Another trans hate thread
4 more similar pornographic threads
Another gore thread
Rinse & Repeat
Fuck 4chan and virtually everyone who’s been active on /b/.

Actually fully agreed. IP, trademarks, copyright, all that shit just serves to make the rich richer and stifle innovation.
Facebook has spent millions figuring out how to make your feed as divisive and confrontational as possible. I don’t think it’s had a good outcome for humanity and I think it’s more in the powers-that-be’s hands than the above person thinks it is.

It’s simple, Plex is owned by capitalists, their goal is not to provide a service or a product, their goal is to make money. Jellyfin is currently the best as far as I know for doing the only thing anyone ever wanted Plex to do.
