When my wife was getting her masters degree, her professor told her about it too lol. All of her professors pretty much used it. When I myself, tried to tell her about sci-hub and libgen, I was surprised that she was already well acquainted
They got my mom like that… like literally a month before her retirement (25-something years working for them). Then HR offered her job back (a week later) because they had fucked up the paper trail, and knew it could come back on them
I advised her to lawyer-up, because it was an obvious wrongful termination/discrimination. But alas, she’s too sweet for her own good and happily retired now
She babysat for extra income and funsies (because she loves kids and was bored) spends a LOT more time with her grand-babies, and just continued being her sweet self, without having to deal with the grind. She could’ve been better off, had they not fucked her over; but it just wasn’t a priority for her to go through the rigamaro. I’ll always respect her for it
But also… man, I wish she would’ve fucked those people up in court, just outta principle. I hope to be as strong in the real way, like her one day
Got you

A Christmas Fucking Miracle in My Ass
Just embedding your linked image quick
Thank you; I’ma have to dig-in a little as to what html and markdown are, and how I can understand them better. I always feel like I’m missing some kind of “common knowledge” when it comes to the intermingling of internet/network/program-language. I’m no programmer either, but forever curious
Knowledge is power and it’s fun to share!
![image of Luigi] vs [image of Luigi]
I guess the exclamation point (!) is what tells lemmy to embed the link. I wonder if that works with non-image url’s?
Edit: Huh… nifty. And that’s where my knowledge hits a wall, cause I have no idea what’s happening in the background, where one url can be embedded as an image, and the other shows up as a “‘obj’ box”. I just don’t understand enough to know what makes an “image” embedable
Huh, this is what I see
But when I click on the small “obj” box, I can see this image
Both of those embedded images, I saved to my phone and inserted using the Boost app. I wonder if I copy and embed your posted-image-link manually, will you also see just a “clickable ‘obj’ box”? Let’s see…
Maybe it has something to do with the app loading it to an instance’s “pictrs” first? That’s way above my knowledge though
Edit: I see someone already helped you get it sorted out! Yay, we all learned something today
I’m not the savviest, but I think it’s kinda like turning a description into a url —> [description into a url](https://example.com/)
I think you just need an exclamation(!) in front of the brackets[] and no description needed between brackets

Now if someone could explain to me what the exclamation(!) does, or why it’s needed, I would appreciate it
Not a failed assassination, but a warning maybe? His health issues have been in the news lately, his “special operation” is wayyyy over-budget… someone’s making him look more vulnerable. Who though??? That’s my dumb conspiracy; he’s losing power and someone’s been waiting to fill that vacuum. Corporate-takeover style? Idk, I’m just riffing
There are dozens of us; I’ve even added a couple of plain grey tee’s, and a navy blue one (that almost looks black)
Bummer (and/or ‘F’)
Well played
It’d probably be easier for you to just ignore the additional @format, especially now that you know why it happens (even though it annoys you). Mastodon to Lemmy communication isn’t seamless, but it’s cool that it can happen at all
And nobody’s gonna dig through settings to find a (probably non-existent) configuration that removes the blue links, when it’s something they don’t even see. Did you check your own config to see if it could remove the @'s from Mastadon replies?
Wayyyy easier to ignore your peeve and enjoy the upside of it all, imo
Or block? Idk, that would be a personal choice and feels counterproductive to me
Complete side note: I wonder if when a Mastodon user replies to a Lemmy comment that’s nested (like 10+ replies deep), does it @everyone in the comment thread? Is there a limit? I need answers, but am too ambivalent to try
I work night shifts. My manager one time called me around 2pm to ask me something menial and waking me up (as I was still sleeping for my next shift at 7pm).
So naturally, I called him at 2AM when I was at work… because I had an “urgent” question about a work policy lol. He got the picture, and that shit never happened again
Never forget, never forgive
