Let’s put an end to antisemitism by – putting a star symbol highlighting the profile of every confirmed Jew or Israeli? Where have I heard this before…
As someone who is good at reading between the lines of Japanese news reporting, here’s my translation of a Japanese news source on what is being discussed in tariff negotiations:
アメリカ側は日本車の安全基準を見直すことなど要求を並べてきましたが、日本車にかかる関税25%を引き下げるつもりがあるのかなど、日本との交渉の方針は確認できなかったということです。
(Translation: The American side lined up requests to review Japanese automobile safety standards, but there was no confirmation of whether there was intent to drop the 25% automobile tariffs, and no indication of where the negotiations with Japan would lead.)
また日本への輸出を拡大したい農産物の品目に牛肉やコメ、魚介類、じゃがいもなどを列挙し、関税以外の障壁や制約を取り除くことも求めてきました。
(Additionally, the US negotiators rattled off a list of products they requested to expand their exports to Japan of as well as to remove regulations/non-tariff barriers. This included beef, rice, seafood and potatoes.)
赤沢大臣はこうした指摘に「優先順位をつけて示してほしい」と述べたということです。
(In response to these pointers, Minister Akazawa stated “We would like these requests ranked by priority”.)
So all in all, the US side seems to spend their time listing a bunch of grievances, the Japan side lending an ear to their concerns, but not sure where the give-and-take part of the negotiations is here.
We have great examples from a certain country, to show that “allowing unlimited money in politics = free speech” is bad. There will be disingenuous ‘slippery slope’ arguments to it but the types of campaigns that this rule is meant to stop is clearly defined and limited.
The “next year” promise of the year…
AI can’t detect birth certificates but you what it can do… Racism TM
Sidenote: with the current DoJ policy being no records = terrorists lacking complete profile
“The lack of a criminal record does not indicate they pose a limited threat,” according to Cerna’s declaration. “The lack of specific information about each individual actually highlights the risk they pose. It demonstrates that they are terrorists with regard to whom we lack a complete profile.”
The AI will have an easy job ‘filling in the missing details’ for the government.
Wow… just wow…
It’s heartbreaking and enraging.
We’re essentially at the point where the Israeli government could justify the Holocaust as long as the Nazis said “Hamas officers hiding among them” before killing people. The genocide is not only cruel but a callous waste of life, hope and talent.
There will be no corrective steps.
Okay, noted, thanks. There will never be any corrective steps as long we avoid thinking of any.
This is assuming you are expected by your council to clean it “thoroughly enough”.
After you eat/drink the contents, a very quick rinse is all that’s needed. Little stains aren’t going to be bad for recycling.
If you’ve left it for a while and are worried, a simple but surefire way to clean out any significant gunk would be these steps:
From a layperson’s POV, this will seem to require years of untangling the law to properly give LGBTQ+ people their due rights under the law that is in theory afforded to everyone. This is a setback for immediate protections, but my view is that this isn’t necessarily bad in the long term, so long as corrective steps are taken to address the root issue.
UK law has been written and interpreted over hundreds of years with various historical understandings of personhood throughout that time. At one point basically only men were people, so laws were only referring to them. After the affirmation of women’s rights and suffrage, should we have just said: women are “men” for every intent and purpose, and just not bothered to update the law and keep using “men” everywhere thereafter? It seems similar to me that tacking trans people’s rights on by making the definitions more ambiguous is fine early on, but at some point should be codified better in law, to give equal right to trans men, trans women and non-binary folks as to cisgender folks. Ignoring the difference of gender vs. sex under the law entirely, would leave gaps in serving trans and nonbinary people’s unmet needs as well. None of this will happen on its own, so allies of LGBTQ+ people ought to contact their MP to make it happen.
I’m not oblivious to the harm to both women and transgender people that this ruling will bring upon the UK, but it should spur on actually solving the issues on codifying gender and sex under the law, rather than relying on half-solutions or temporary solutions.
I’d happily be educated on this topic.
Depends on where what and how. “Plastics” is a broad category after all.
Here’s a program report from British Columbia, Canada, with multi-stream recycling and a deposit program: PDF
Refundable deposit systems do help with getting bottles and cans properly sorted out and recycled. (Germany does it better making single use plastic bottles a higher deposit than bottles that can be reused).
Just soya know, OP edited in the archive link that you don’t have to open, 20 minutes before you posted your comment. Have a nice day.
Forcibly remove first, ask questions later is going to soon end up kidnapping random people out of the country…
Conservative excuses and goalposts will adapt as we go along:
- but look, he was supposed to be deported anyway (Abrego Garcia)
- doesn’t matter that he has a valid asylum case, he came here illegally so he should be kicked out (Gutiérrez)
- If you don’t want to support America, you shouldn’t have a green card (Mahdawi)
- he looks like he came from out of the country and he helps illegal migrants anyway, too bad he’s a US citizen
- these were people spewing violent rhetoric about Trump and America, take them out of the country if they don’t want to be here
- hey wait, this is a mistake!? (future kidnapped Conservative)
Main reason for me is that I have bought humble bundles, donated to gamejams, and gotten keys off of legit and grey-market sites in the past in conjunction with buying directly from Steam. Those aren’t included in the Steam spend category.
Drill, baby, drill (holes in the ground to put the oil back in)!
Americans, either fix your shit, or start thinking about how to get out, before the big beautiful wall keeps you in.
I will admit there is some speculation on my part of what will happen in the future. But the proof to my central claim of battery-operated passenger planes that are in operation today is linked right in my previous comment. I’ll link it again here in case you missed it:

It’s not all a pipe dream.
And like I said I agree that fuel is more practical for most flights today, I’m not ignoring the current limitations you state. I do, however, believe that over time these can be overcome, to significant benefit, such as the $2/hr operating cost of the electric plane vs. $172. If you are most worried about airborne hazards, sodium ion batteries are far more stable than lithium and perform better at extreme temperatures, but the energy density does not currently surpass lithium so it’s not a practical for aviation yet.
What I want to say is: Just because it doesn’t work for most applications now (which you have made clear in your argument), don’t rule it out for the future.
