Even calling?
fae/she
Plural and not human, don’t include or refer to us in any way as being human, we aren’t.
Never tell us what we’re feeling, why we’re doing something or what we are etc.
Not here to punish, your punitive mindset is showing.
Ask more questions, assume less.
Even calling?
Cassette Beasts and Stardew Valley.
They are working on it: https://github.com/orgs/revoltchat/discussions/597
Also we disagree as not all groups on even discord are public since many require invites or accepting requests to join.
Edit: Also, even if they are public I’d rather the server not be able to see my messages even if the users in any given group can. Yes, I know it’s a minor difference but I can probably trust the other users, I cannot necessarily trust the server.
Does it have e2ee messages (even in group chats) and calling? One reason we never used discord is because it lacked that (except in calling towards the end).
Edit: Seems they are “working on it”, which makes us a bit nervous but hopefully it’ll be implemented everywhere: https://github.com/orgs/revoltchat/discussions/597
Oh, prose does? Yikes.
For an average user how good is calling on XMPP and Matrix on any given server? We’ve only seen matrix.org have successful calling and we’ve never had success with XMPP calling nor joining groups on it. No idea what prose is.
Sad that it is being replaced by the much worse Teams and there isn’t much to replace it in the open source world except for Signal, Threema, Wire and maybe Jitsi meet.
Yeah, the people behind it always seemed to be more interested in getting corporate funding and thus gave corporations more what they wanted/needed instead of typical users and mods. This is part of the reason why I’m no longer interested in matrix main and more hard forks of it.
Thanks for the info!
Yeah, sadly.
Jitsi doesn’t have e2ee except in a few situations and they don’t seem interested in bringing e2ee to all platforms, or they can’t. It also is somewhat buggy with disconnects etc. Also it’s meant for one off calls or meetings compared to discord, but yeah, it’s okay for some situations.
Yeah, sadly most open source alternatives to discord either cannot do voice/video chat or cannot do it as well or seamlessly as discord did, partially because federated voice/video chat is not really a solved issue and partially because of money. Though even most of the centralised ones don’t really have voice/video chat that works well except for a few like Signal because they have the resources.
Another problem is it’s based on p2p a lot of the time, whereas I think things like discord partially use their servers to facilitate it, I’ll check on this though.
[sarcasm] Who could have ever seen it coming? [/sarcasm]
Honestly, the writing was on the wall for a long time, it had no clear business model and was a mess. It was always going to go this way and I tried pointing out that it was a bad platform but nobody either cared or believed me. Whelp, looks like I was a Cassandra yet again.
Hope Open Source people can make something to fill the gap, there really is nothing else (yet). Matrix really doesn’t have the features and that which it does have is often bad UX and doesn’t work everywhere. Not seen anything else which will fill the gap and I’ve been looking but I guess nobody thought discord would go down, go this way, or just don’t really know how to make something that would fill the gap, or didn’t want to.
Sadly not, most mentally ill people aren’t like him, and also it is obvious he is in a cult as this is exactly what cults do to people.
Yeah. I never really got into pokémon as I didn’t like the idea of capturing creatures and forcing them to fight, but Cassette Beasts doesn’t have that problem. Oh yeah, good point about them being doubles. I do like the aesthetic/graphics and that it’s avaliable on every platform, unlike pokémon.
Cassette Beasts and soon Lost Records: Bloom and Rage, Tape 2
We think Minds tried something like this (though it might be different tiers) and it didn’t exactly go well, forcing users to pay one way or the other always leads to economic pressures to keep users around, even if they are being toxic at least from what we have observed.
clashing with their users’ need to stay isolated from users who are toxic to them.
Sadly Lemmy does not solve this problem as the creators think like a corporation or do not want to be fully cut off from other users and thus do not have proper blocking (which is something built into ActivityPub mind you), for now it is only one way blocking which does not solve being isolated from toxic users as it still allows for some toxic behaviour etc.
If Lemmy ever gets that feature it would actually prove that it is dedicated to user safety, but a lot of people in the open source social media world seem to be ‘concerned’ with not being able to see everything due to entitlement, as others unrelated to Lemmy also are lacking the same or similar features.
What servers were you on and what clients were you using?
