So they applied the “liability shield” concept from corporations to the government? Sounds like a fusion of corporation and state (aka fascism)…

No motive has been given, although police have said they are “confident” it was not an act of terrorism.
Let me guess? The suspect is white! I jest, but at this point it’s probably likely the driver is a radicalized “conservative” than any other group.
It’s no different to the Internet archive. They need to update their strategy for the threat of fascism and make it essentially impossible to destroy as long as people have PC’s connected to the internet.
They need to decentralize operations with a distributed P2P protocol, redistribute their own servers across multiple jurisdictions, and allow individuals to donate resources for additional support/redundancy (as part of the P2P protocol).
Luxury bones!
Last I heard it was way more than feasible for a normie. Something like 500TB.
Not that I’m aware of. From the limited number of articles I’ve read that aren’t fluff, the founder(s) seem more idealistic than practical, but I don’t know their situation or domain well enough to be confident in an opinion either way.
There should be efforts to ensure it never happens again. All companies who abandon products or services should be forced to open source all associated code.
Why should greedy narcissists be allowed to waste humanities finite resources on their limp dick get-rich-quick schemes and failures?
Fascism doing what fascism does
I donate to the internet archive every year, but they need to decentralize their data into a distributed p2p protocol fucking ASAP.
Trying to fight fascism in oligarch-owned courts is a losing battle. All it takes is one corrupt judge and we lose the library of Alexandria. Centralizing an “internet archive” in any jurisdiction was always a mistake. I don’t want to fund court battles. I want to donate hard drives, CPU’s, and bandwidth for the rest of my life.
The longer they do not do this, the less value I see in my donations, and the more I feel they are not proper custodians of the data they hold. It feels like they aren’t taking the risks, or their value, seriously.
They can, but they aren’t gonna experience a time as cool as the 2020’s for at least another century. The extinction of 90+% of the world’s coral reefs are already locked in.
Within the next 15 years, we’ll emit another 25% of all GHG’s emitted to date.
Don’t ever take this in a defeatist kind of way. Get fuckin angry. Humanity is systematically murdering most life on earth — in the blink of an eye — all because of our most greedy, selfish, and ignorant.
Turns out chemicals that don’t break down tend to rapidly accumulate… Someone should call them something that carries some gravitas… maybe “forever chemicals”?
Looks like Russia will have to throw another several hundred thousand working age males into the meat-grinder, to maintain that few hundred square kms of dirt.
Putin: “It’s a sacrifice my billionaire narcissism is willing to make”
Don’t get fooled by the oligarch-owned media. The wealthiest individuals will benefit the most.
Fascism is a fusion of corporation and state (e.g. state-capitalism, like China). The next few years will likely see the largest transfer of wealth in history, and the S&P 500 will consolidate from an ownership of 200 separate conglomerates to 20-50 (example only. not real figures).
Like you said, sketchy OS, that is probably less performant than Linux and may not get proper security updates.
Turning a blind eye is the only way conservatism can function.
They need to federate and decentralize with some sort of p2p protocol, so anyone can donate their spare hard drives for additional redundancy. Seeing up shop in any jurisdiction is a single point of failure.
Cryptomator is best for dirs and anything synced to the cloud. You can also use something like rclone, locally, but it’s more for remote backup of data. Veracrypt dirs are predefined in size, so it’s best to only use for full disk encryption, fixed archives, etc.
Password protection only means protection if the data behind it is encrypted with that password. In all other cases, the data should be considered compromised (visible/accessible) the moment anyone else has access to the hardware or software storing it.
Nobody said tariffs were efficient.
Their product still produces output based on Studio Ghibli’s data, and just like all of us, they did not consent to their data being used to train models that would recompose their work for profit.
What if a corporation stole your voice and appearance, and made your likeness a movie star, without your consent or compensation?
I’d be willing to bet the universal common denominator for anyone who isn’t brown is simply that they’re antifascist.
