I think that “woke” (as it used now by right wing mouth breathers) is a combination of “PC” and “satanic”. Because from what I remember in my childhood, “satanic” was the word of choice for right wingers to use when they didn’t like something. “PC” was used in an insulting way by certain people but it was far more popular at the time to just accuse anything they didn’t like of being devil worship.

“Woke” is the exact same shit as that. Just repackaged so that edgelord teenagers also think it’s cool to call everything “woke”. And instead of the devil, it’s the LGBTQ+ community, which is probably the same thing to them anyway. But it’s all spear headed by the same fucking people or types of people, along with their legion of useful idiots this time.

As an outside observer, one of the funniest things about Trump (and this whole crowd actually) is the amount of just denying things that they do. There is never a single time that they admit fault or the capability to learn and improve. Drunkard clowns like Hesgeth have to be dragged out kicking and screaming for something to be rectified, at which point they’ll just go “Uh, well anyway, here’s the next guy, he’s going to be great! Tremendously bigly!”

Elon didn’t do that famous hand gesture that we all saw him do twice in a row. Fox News guy didn’t use a 3rd party app for a top secret war chat and didn’t include a journalist in the group. Trump didn’t apply those tariffs or throw unhinged temper tantrums on social media. It’s all just the fake news librul agenda trying to discredit these fine upstanding members of society as usual. And if it’s true - onto the next thing. How about that woke agenda amirite?

I remember a couple of years ago, there were bad storms and flooding or something like that in parts of the USA. And one (1) church made the news for being the only church that provided shelter for the homeless while this was going on. Plenty others made the news for turning the homeless away.

So if they’re not going to be loving their neighbours and caring for the poor, what value is this religion actually bringing to the world, other than teaching children that anyone who doesn’t conform to their culture deserves to burn and suffer for eternity?

Act like you care too much about the kids to allow drag queens to read books to them in a public library, then support politicians that want to legalise child marriage and send children to work in the mines. Haha same here. I’m around 5’6 or 5’7 and I find depending on make, I’m either size 11 or 12 shoes. Also have pretty big hands (or long fingers at least). I’ve always thought of my hands and feet as big puppy paws that I never grew into lmao.

I kinda both like and dislike that something as arbitrary as long hair and no beard can cause this kind of debate. In the '80s, the assumption probably would’ve just been that they’re a fan of hair metal lol.

I like it because it means that it’s a lot easier to bend gender norms (and be seen as bending gender norms) than I thought and it also just proves how full of shit people are when they claim they “can tell” and that at least half of their perception of the world is dictated by their culture.

I dislike it for the same reasons though. Because it means that this world is still a lot more puritanical and prone to pearl clutching than I thought. It means that boys with long hair who don’t like sports are going to be getting beaten up and bullied for being ‘gay’ or whatever. It means that sightly butch women won’t be able to use public bathrooms without judgmental, psychotic people wanting to make that woman’s genitals their own business. It means that I’m living in a world with people who still think in terms of long hair = girl, who haven’t ever expanded their minds or considered that their own cultural norms don’t apply to everyone in the slightest.

Sounds like I’m going to have to get hold of this book. Both Superman and Lois are two of my all time favourites and this sounds great. I’m throw in another random fact. Pretty sure he only got his ability to fly during the running of the Fleischer cartoons. Originally he could “leap tall buildings in a single bound”. Then somewhere along the line in the cartoons, they just found it more convenient if he could actually fly to take on some threats.

For what it’s worth, I was also blocked at a time in my saga. And might have even been the blocker once. I don’t think it’s the healthiest kind of relationship to have with someone lol. Especially with strong feelings involved. All that I can say worked in my situation was time apart and maybe a change in mindset since then too.

But I mean, sometimes people just suck too and are just bullies or bigots. And it’s admirable that you’re worried about her mental state here when you could probably still do with some healing yourself too. If it’s eating you up, I used to find that the best escape from this sort of spiralling out is to lose myself in a complicated RPG.

Ah yeah, didn’t even think of that and I even saw a post come through my feed this morning from there. I tend to associate this kind of stuff more with hippies lol but maybe that’s a good place to ask too.

I don’t think I’ve really seen any communities around here dealing with anything metaphysical or whatever. Or this kind of spirituality.

You might possibly get a better reception in !witchesvspatriarchy@lemmy.ca but that’s really the only community around here where I think people who have information or advice could possibly be lurking.

They allowed a self proclaimed dictator to take power a couple of months after the courts decided that presidents should have dictator powers and the full plans for what they’re doing now called project 2025 was doing the rounds.

I truly feel bad for the good and decent people that were born into a country of fucking sociopath illiterate inbred clowns but Donald Trump’s ‘approval’ rating has never even gone below 40%. In fact just last night I saw an article saying that his approval rating has actually rebounded a little bit.

I used to love Americans. There’s still a few that I think are pretty cool. But this whole thing has changed my opinion of them in general. In a not at all good way. I think I despair more about the otherwise decent seeming people who claim they voted for the price of eggs or some shit than I do about the stereotypical ‘Murica’ people that worship Trump like Jesus. My image of the USA was betrayed the most by those people.
