1. The version that internalizes the stories, realizes the value of empathy and sympathy and the destructive power of authoritarian control

While that’s true, as far as I know at the moment, for the majority of people, the only way to “flee” the US is to seek asylum elsewhere, which is difficult, or to pursue immigration to another nation, which also requires basically getting a job there in advance. Otherwise you will still just be deported back to the US if you haven’t left through one of these means.
