Many didn’t. Hell, vaccines haven’t been around much longer than cars. Before unions? Or way, way back, hunter-gatherer type? I do know that the local Native American tribe that was displaced where I live was said to have had to work approx 2 hours a day to provide for needs, food, shelter. In my opinion they had it better, despite the higher childhood death rates. So, I guess if you go back far enough it can be argued to have been better. But closer history was pretty freaking grim. I’ll check your youtube links when I have more time.
LOL, you need to check your history to see what cities were like before cars came into being. Listen, I’m just having fun for the most part. I think our car culture is fucking stupid and has done untold harm and I am well aware of how car culture came to where it’s at. I also think public transportation should be much more wildly available, and free. Part of the commons. Studies have shown that physical mobility has a bigger impact on social and economic growth that any other variable.
But getting rid of cars, or saying that the top speed for all cars should be 30kph is, sorry, stupid and fantasy thinking. It’s skipping too many steps. Cars suck. I get that. But so much of the fuckcars movement is focusing just on magically getting rid of cars, when it should be focusing on improving all the other options to the point that cars don’t make sense. What really needs to happen is for humans to stop breeding like fucking rats. Which again, is fantasy thinking.
BRING BACK HORSES!! That’s my solution. Piles of horse shit all over the place again. We need to get rid of electricity too, because all these fucking electric cars. Hashtag something or other like I guess people use on twitter. Never used, so I don’t know. PieInTheSky, Shallowthinking? Something like that, right?
Edit: And how in the hell did people pick up elderly relatives from the airport before cars existed?
Force cars to not be able to go quicker than a brisk walk. Force everyone to either walk or, if they are in a hurry, ride a bike. Your commute just went from a thirty minute drive to a 5 hour bike ride? Sucks to be you. Can’t afford a place closer to work? Sucks to be you. Planning on visiting relatives in another state and can’t afford air fair and other options, trains or buses, don’t go there? Sucks to be you, set aside a week to get there. An elderly relative is flying into the closest airport, with is now a 4 hour drive away, well…better plan accordingly.
You could do it with two text files and an awk one-liner.
It wasn’t too long ago that I did it. Maybe 8-10 years ago. I realized nothing I needed came in the mail, so I just stopped checking. At one point the postman literally just took all the junk mail and dumped it on my front step. I raised holy hell with the post office about littering, after jamming it all back into the outgoing mail. I think the way the postmaster did it, instead of dealing with my assholeness, was just setting my residence to unoccupied in or something along those lines. Spam, of all sorts (aside from Spam musubi) is just a fucking drag. Like all marketing and advertising.
Yeah, it got so bad I was worried I was going to rage on the delivery driver (for what it’s worth, I support the USPS and have not heard a legitimate argument about why it should be stopped. But fucking junk mail. I know it accounts for a chunk of their income, there has got to be a better way. Like making the price of every single piece of junk mail that is delivered to me is $10. Something. Cut out junk mail and only have delivery 4 days a week. Not consecutively.
But yeah, to get back to your question. I talked to the Postmaster at the local Post Office and they had me write and sign a piece of paper saying,“I DON’T WANT THIS SHIT NO MORE!”. The trouble it caused in my life was absolutely dwarfed by the positive of not having to deal with that shit anymore.
Looks like a few people didn’t like you calling them out on their lack of awareness. Classic Lemmy.
USPS got so pissed at me for just leaving my junk mail in the box. I told them over and over I didn’t need trash delivered to my place. In the end, I just stopped all USPS deliveries. I had nothing of importance coming in through the mail.
My mom’s uncle, white Norwegian, was put in a Nazi camp during WWII. History lesson.
That vehicle has already lasted longer, and been more useful, than any of the embarrassing new ones.
The single most important job of the DNC is keeping corporate candidates in office and keeping the money flowing. These fuckos have never been impartial. Anyone else still pissed at fucking Hoyer and the DCCC trying to get the progressive candidate to drop out of a primary?
From the above recording, Tellemann to Hoyer: “So before we, before we go any further on that, Crow is the favorite, in no small part Congressman Hoyer, because the DCCC not only put its finger on the scale, but started jumping on the scale very early on…I mean, it’s undemocratic to have a small elite select someone and then try to rig the primary against the other people running. And that is basically what’s been happening”
This was after the DNC had rat fucked Bernie, foisted Hillary on everyone, and lost to the serial failure, trump.
Living in the US, I think a large part of why we can’t seem to agree on anything politically is because we’re using separate definitions depending on which perspective it’s from. It makes conversations impossible.
I remember being bummed that the bullet wasn’t just a little more to the side for effectiveness.
get the canned sunshine tech tree unlock pretty damn quick
I’m sorry. I just don’t know what that means, or references. I looked and the only thing I could find was this: https://mindustry-unofficial.fandom.com/wiki/Tech_Tree which I don’t think is what you are referring.
First time I heard that word. I looked it up on urban dictionary, but I’m still not sure:

I would love to pin it on one thing, like social media. While I felt, feel, like that was a big variable in the downfall, I can’t underestimate the loss of the “American Dream”. I felt like phones should be banned. But some teachers felt like phones could be integrated into the curriculum. I could see both points, but honestly I just felt like society had passed me by. One of my master teachers, when I had been student teaching 25 years previously, said it was time to go when the students no longer entertained you. I felt like that was about right. I don’t think knowledge at your fingertips is a reason not to actually learn stuff.
Oh man. A friend of mine from back when I was at University (30+ years ago) thought it would be a great idea to have a weed planting day. Everyone goes out to any public area that gets enough water through rain or watering, and just plants weed everywhere. I still think it would be funny to pull off.
