My sister was saying to me that her 8yo said to her that she’s gay, and my sis didn’t knew how to react because she couldn’t believe an 8yo would know if she’s gay. I told her that didn’t matter if she’s gay or not, what matter if you support her or bot. If you accept her as gay, she’s going to felt validated and would trust you as growing up, if you don’t believe her and try to force heterosexuality in her she’s going to hate you eventually, if not for that for any other reason.
Plenty of kids already know if they are gay or not. In my home country, I have had classmates in elementary school who are openly gay. Some cultures find it awkward to talk about it to children, whereas in some, tolerance and acceptance to lgbt is part of culture. I probably don’t need to mention about the concept and existence of third genders since the ancient times.
Hey look it’s bigotry disguised as humor at the top of Lemmy
That happened
Hi, gay and five. I’m dad.

Hi dad, I’m not surprised about this joke
Hi, not surprised about this joke! 👋
That’s not my name but I get confused with surprised about this joke very often so I wanted to clarify
Not a shitpost, but liked and subscribed anyway.
Def shitpost. No sensible gay would shop at Target.
depends on the year this originated
Jan. 25, 2020 according to Google. A lifetime ago.
How’d I let myself get bamboozled like this?
She’s five, will you give her some time? Jeez…
Anyone can be born gay, but fashion? That takes years to master!
I think they’re pointing out how Target has done a complete about-face regarding LGTBQ representation since the new commander in cheeto.
Probably she just does not want to wear that dress.
And then everyone clapped
idk that one sounds like something a five year old really would say after someone tried to explain what gay means for the first time
or perhaps she heard her dad say that as a joke to someone and decided that she’s going to do the same
kids are really dumb sometimes, words are hard
Yah but what use is it for kids to say weird things if we can’t have 3000+ comment-deep debates about every possible angle of it online? This is what the internet is best for! Completely dismantling every benign situation until nobody even knows why everyone hates each other now.
Sure. That’s cool and all. But have you ever considered how this is a clear sign that the daughter is being horribly mistreated? /s
Well then, individuality, because… Look, she has to be have… petunias.
nothing ever happens
But extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. I require extraordinary evidence to believe that–checks thread again–a five year old had a tantrum about a dress in Target.
