Autos trade group Mobility Sweden said new vehicle registrations of Tesla models were down 80.7% in April amid a backlash against the political activity of CEO Elon Musk.

Tesla registrations were 203 in April, down from 1,052 a year before.

It was one of the worst-performing automakers for the month in the Nordic country, and sat in contrast to an overall 11% rise in new passenger vehicle registrations to 24,292.

Polestar Automotive, a Swedish electric automaker and one of Tesla’s competitors, saw its sales hit 535 in April, an 11.5% increase.

I have literally since they were released wanted a Tesla…right up until he decided to start this right wing bullshit.

I have for a few years now said if in 2015 he decided to become a recluse and just revel in his companies grandeur he might be the next Edison or maybe more accurately Ford. Possibly Hughes.

Now we are aware of how much of a petulant, unfunny child this dickhead is. He and his reputation is ruined.

I was going to buy a Tesla in 2021, the only reason I didn’t was I needed a car immediately and they had a several month waiting list. If it had been available, I would’ve taken it. Even test drove one. Now, I will never buy a Tesla. I would rather have a Rivian anyway.

There are two reasonably good ones, as far as I know - Gabe Newell and Bill Gates.

        The rest though… yeah.
The world would be a very different place if every billionaire was anything like those two.

Gates became a billionare by being a trash human being, then probably decided he didn’t want that to be his legacy so he started being somewhat less of one. He’s doing significantly better than most, but still probably a net negative.

The man who has donated roughly 100 billion in total - apparently as “tax writeoffs” - including funding the Gates foundation which spent countless billions treating malaria, aids, tuberculosis, polio, hiv and a myriad of other things, hasn’t fixed anything because billionaire = bad.

Apathetic in the large scale, but very warm and friendly at the smaller one.

I lived in the American South, I find this to be much more to my liking as the smiling faces seem less likely to be covering deep, hateful racism looking for an excuse to resort to violence.

I don’t think racism is worse here than most places. Most people here who are against emigrants, have no problem with their emigrant neighbor or emigrant green grocer, it’s this weird phenomenon where the ones they know are OK, it’s all the others that are the problem.

Mostly standard fear of the unknown, which is a universal human trait.

Ok I was just trying to help you understand the correct use of those words, as you are a Dane and English not being your native tongue.

You are talking about them from your POV as a Dane. That makes them imigrants. If a Dane moved to the USA, he would, from your POV, be an emigrant.

In other words; a foreigner is always an imigrant, a fellow native leaving is always an emigrant.

Traded my Tesla for a Polestar 3. While it does have some weird software quirks and issues, it’s overall been great. Tesla has had a long time to polish their software compared to just about everyone else.

I expected software issues from a company still early into their ecosystem, but it’s base is Android Automotive so it’s not entirely the terrible in car systems like most legacy automakers.

It’s still the most overvalued stock on the US ticker and it’s not even close.

Even in the most charitable reading of the future, Tesla chooses a responsible leader, successfully course-corrects, and becomes “just a car company.” The techbro futurist hype goes away, and the value tanks back to reality.

It wasn’t a statement to the press. It was leaked. That means that the whole board likely was not ready to announce it or that they’re trying to keep it on the down low, where mostly just investors will see it and act accordingly.

It’s down quite a bit this year:

Yes and that seems to be mostly from the inauguration, Nazi salute and DOGE, january through March.
But if you look from when the tariffs were announced in the start of April, and most of American stock is down in that period. Then Tesla has done pretty well in April compared to most, despite being a company that will be hit hard by the tariffs.

what? shorting the stock is literally the same as selling shares

when you short, you sell someone else’s shares that you don’t own with a promise to buy them back at whatever it costs when you exit your position

(if the price goes up you’re forced to buy for higher and you lose money; if the price goes down you buy for a lower price and you make money)
